AmericanRhetoric.com contains copyrighted materials (html/pdf/flash text, audio, video, digital images), the use of which in many cases has not been specifically authorized by the copyright owner(s). These materials include all of the artifacts in the "Movie Speeches" site area as well as various artifacts in the "Top 100 Speeches" and "Speech Bank" site areas. However, a number of rhetorical artifacts on this site are in the public domain and may be used freely. Still other artifacts are copyrighted by AmericanRhetoric.com. The latter includes the vast majority of text and audio artifacts in the "Rhetorical Figures in Sound" site area, and, in some cases, audio-to-text transcriptions of audio and video artifacts in the public domain. In many cases color-coded copyright data are presented near the bottom of a given text artifact along with source and, where known, copyright holder information.

The site is making such material available in the effort to advance understanding of political, social, and religious issues as they relate to the study and practice of the art of rhetoric and public address, and as deemed relevant to the public interest and enlightened civic discourse.
